More info

This book is a classic among African-specific bushcraft and survival manuals and is still one of the best, despite being written 50 years ago. The book consists of eleven chapters covering emergencies, first aid, signalling, shelters, fire, locating water, food, dangerous animals, traps and snares, way-finding, camping, and tracking. The chapters are well and clearly written and contain a wealth of pertinent information. The chapters are illustrated with good line drawings. Likewise, the appendices, giving illustrations of edible and poisonous plants and photographs of venomous snakes, are generally very clear, making this still the best illustrated of all the African-specific bushcraft books available in English. Clearly our understanding of medical first response has developed since the 1960s, but the first aid advice given by Col. Grainger has survived the passage of time remarkably well. Softcover. English. Timmins. 1969. ISBN: 0. 172 pp. Good. Book No: 2003091
